Is the following more
evidence that our current Assessor is not being “FAIR
1.
Some
property owners seem to get increases in their assessments year after year
while other select property owners haven’t had an increase for 10 years and
counting!
2.
Assessments
are supposed to be set at 60% of appraisal yet some select property owners have
assessments that are far less than 60% of the purchase price of their property
with very little increases over the past 7 years!
3.
Most owners
of real estate have increases in their assessments when they improve their
property by putting on new roofs, decks or porches on their houses yet some
select property owners do significant improvements totaling as much as
$649,000, and their assessments don’t seem to increase in proportion to the
improvements to their property!
If you don’t
believe it, click here to read
the following letter from our County
Commission which was obtained through a Freedom of Information Act Request

our current Assessor wrote in response to the County Commission's letter...
Compare the explanations contained in this letter
including the rise in assessments to properties located in blighted areas with
her failure to reassess the parcels contained below that haven't went up in over
10 years. Does this make any sense to you? Click the above
link to read what your county commission said about inconsistencies in our
valuations/appraisals.
Also, look at her
justification for not assessing property where the deed contained a $1 Million
sales price claiming that it was a forced purchase and that it contained
business property assets as well as real property (real estate). This is
impossible as state law mandates that deeds only contain real property in them
and not business property assets such as desks, tools, computers..etc. Also,
why is the current Assessor avoiding a debate on these issues as the Democratic
Party of Harrison County wanted to sponsor a debate but she refused? Is it
because there is no defense for her failure to reassess these parcels below
while everyone else's assessments continue to rise?
Here is a sampling of what
we uncovered by doing research at the county courthouse! Note that some of these properties are owned
by the same individuals that were listed in the letter from the
